Obviously not cool.

"ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) -- Pakistan's government has banned access to the video-sharing Web site YouTube because of anti-Islamic movies that users have posted on the site, an official said Sunday.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority told the country's 70 Internet service providers Friday that the popular Web site would be blocked until further notice."

electronfilm.jpgThis is kind of cool. Make sure you scroll down after clicking the link to see the movies.

"Now it is possible to see a movie of an electron. The movie shows how an electron rides on a light wave after just having been pulled away from an atom. This is the first time an electron has ever been filmed, and the results are presented in the latest issue of Physical Review Letters."

PigeonRank - How Google Really Works

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
If you've ever wondered - like I did! - how Google manages to collect all its information together and present such a concise gathering of relevant search results, your answer is at my fingertips.

pigeon_system.jpg

PigeonRank is a patented Google function developed by Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford University.  Learn more by reading here.

"A material that is able to self-repair even when it is sliced in two has been invented by French researchers.

The as-yet-unnamed material - a form of artificial rubber - is made from vegetable oil and a component of urine.

The substance, described in the journal Nature, produces surfaces when cut that retain a strong chemical attraction to each other.

Pieces of the material join together again as if never parted without the need for glue or a special treatment."

I'm not sure this is very cool since Blu-ray is more expensive but it is what it is.

"TOKYO - Toshiba said Tuesday it will no longer develop, make or market HD DVD players and recorders, handing a victory to rival Blu-ray disc technology in the format battle for next-generation video."

YouTube - The Rain Song

I was out driving in the rain today and they played this song on the radio. I love the way Jimmy Page plays guitar. This is a nice "unplugged" version with an orchestra in the background.

Calling all coffee addicts! I really prefer things like espresso or latte instead of a standard drip coffee. I have a small espresso machine at home and I use it all the time. So I found these cool videos about how to make all these different coffee drinks. Here's a sample video and after you watch it click here to see them all.

"This was the dramatic scene as the world's largest statue of Jesus was hit by lightning. The bolt parted the thunderclouds over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to strike Christ the Redeemer. The statue is 130ft tall, is made of 700 tons of reinforced concrete and stands atop the 2,296ft Corcovado mountain overlooking the city."

Anger Management In The Workplace

Ok maybe it's very wrong to laugh about this because it is a very serious issue but... As long as it's not taken out on another person it's pretty funny and you have to admit that.

Heres an oldie but goody.

And it wouldn't be complete without the spoof video!

And lets end this off with some non violent hilarity.

The Very Best Jello Shots, Ever.

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
If you think jello shots are for the young and easily intoxicated, think again.  These jello shots have got to be the most cultured I've ever seen.  And the best thing is, they're no more difficult to make than ordinary jello shots, and they'll impress your guests for weeks to come.  Everyone will comment favourably and you can sit back and smile.

I Can Has Cheeseburger?

Just when you thought you'd seen - and eaten - it all, along comes Cheeseburger in a Can.

cheeseburger-opened.jpg

Yep, you read that right.  And to save us all the endless tragedy wondering just what a Cheeseburger in a Can really consisted of, some poor bugger actually composed a pictorial history - from Can to Stomach.

YouTube - The Death of The Internet?

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
This was posted on youtube May 9 2006. I haven't heard anything about this until now so... Here it is for you in case you haven't heard about it either. This is obviously not cool.

"Major telecommunications companies are spending millions lobbying the U.S. congress to make the Internet into a private network. In political lingo this mean abandoning what is called "Net Neutrality". In common sense terms it's about the government withdrawing our right to Internet Freedom. This V-Doc. (viral documentary) is about the current threat to Internet Freedom and how we can hold on to the open Internet and our right to communicate. The only way the telecommunications companies will be successful is if we fail to raise awareness about this situation. If people find out about the fact that we are about to lose our Internet freedom there is no way they will allow congress to do this. This congressional decision will set a monumental precedent, and thus, impact not just U.S. citizens, but citizens all over world."

Calling all Trekkies and sci-fi fans! So if they do succeed and manage to time travel would we even know about it? What I mean is we've all seen the sci-fi shows where the past gets tampered with and the present gets changed and nobody is the wiser.

"Time_travel The entire particle physics community is counting down to May like it was their birthday, Christmas and the Second Coming of the Lord all wrapped up in a clutch of Superbowls. It's when the Large Hadron Collider comes online, but while most are hoping for data and praying for the bashful Higgs boson to finally show it's tiny little face, some Russian mathematicians are warning that we might get more than we bargained for."

YouTube - The two talking cats

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
Who doesn't love adorable cats? Be sure to turn the volume up for this one. Enjoy!

"Stina and Mossy (the two cats seen in this video) usually fight instead of talk, so this was an odd moment. They kept "talking" for about 1 hour, constantly. We've had alot of laughs over this clip.. =)"

This is a really great story but I wonder how many American men are rich enough to give a gift like that. Not the $100,000 but to say "write any amount" and not actually be worried about it.
Interesting!

"An Iowa couple are £50,000 better off after a complete stranger gave them a blank cheque in a cafe.

He told them: "Write any amount you like - I'm good for it."

The couple took him at his word to the tune of $100,000, about £50,600, reports the Daily Mirror."

Mac and cheese sales spike - UPI.com

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
I used to love mac and cheese(kraft dinner) but I haven't had it for quite a while. Now reading this story makes me want to get some on my next grocery trip. Who else likes mac and cheese?

"The product, which debuted 70 years ago, posted 10 percent growth in 2007, due in part to soaring sales of single-serve microwaveable Easy Mac cups, which experienced a 50 percent rise in sales for the year, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday."

Have you ever wondered how secure the internet is? What I mean is how secure are the international cables that connect the internet all together? The answer in the middle east seems to be, not very secure. Click the link for the full story.   Link

I love watching some of the cool superbowl commercials and my favorite is probably the old 1984 Mac commercial. With the very surreal Orwellian atmosphere it just makes the commercial cool.

This should be an interesting story to follow.

More cool nano technology stuff.

"CHICAGO - Transistor radios tinier than a grain of sand, made using nanotechnology, can not only tune in to the traffic report, but may end up outperforming current silicon-based electronics, U.S. researchers said on Monday."

Link

I remember reading a book about nanotechnology years ago and this is the type of thing they talked about(sort of). I remember the book described nano-robots that would go into your body and destroy the disease afflicting you. Thats not quite what this is but it's still cool.

Mind you the idea of tiny magnets attracting to each other in your body reminds me of an episode of house that went really bad for the patient. His magnets were ripping the body tissue as they attracted together.

No Pants 2k8 at Improv Everywhere

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
I just found this totally cool site for Improv Everywhere. What these guys do is gather 200 or more "agents" in a location and pull off an improv session. The trick is these improv sessions are  often more like practical jokes. Check it out for a good laugh. Be warned though. Make sure you have some time to kill.

This is kind of neat. It reminds me of those funny commercials about House Hippos a few years ago.

shrew.jpg
"A new species of mammal has been discovered in the mountains of Tanzania, scientists report.

The bizarre-looking creature, dubbed Rhynochocyon udzungwensis, is a type of giant elephant shrew, or sengi.

The cat-sized animal, which is reported in the Journal of Zoology, looks like a cross between a miniature antelope and a small anteater."
